Tips & Tricks

Some of my personal tips for hosting a party or shower:

1.) Get creative with your invitation! Try to create something unique instead of going with a standard invite that has been used time and again.  It is the first thing the guests see so it will set the tone of your party.  If you aren't really great at DIY projects, take a look at Etsy for some fun handmade invitations.

2.) Spend some time at the craft store.  Every time I host a shower I spend some time wandering the isles of Hobby Lobby.  You can find inspiration and ideas from isles you'd never have looked at.  In the past I've found stamps, wooden cut outs, iron-on badges and more that fit perfectly with my theme just by wandering the isles.

3.) Try out some DIY projects! With the access of the internet and pinterest you can find SO many ideas online.  Don't be afraid to try a DIY project.  If it fails... it won't be the end of the world! But you can make some really fun decor items at home.  My favorite craft that I've used in several parties are the tulle pom poms I made for one of the first showers I hosted on my own.  And if you make something generic you can re-use for other parties with similar color themes.

4.) If possible, use a backdrop for your table.  If you don't have a blank wall right behind your food table, using a backdrop can really make your table look perfect! You can use a sheet or just purchase fabric from the craft store and hot glue a seam on the top.  We use the Command strips to hold a curtain rod with the backdrop when hosting parties at our house and I think it makes a huge difference.

5.) Keep the food simple and prepare ahead of time.  You are going to be running around the day-of trying to get everything set-up to perfection so don't try to prepare food right before your party.  It will stress you out and you won't be able to enjoy yourself.  If you have most things made or purchased ahead of time you can just transfer onto your platters before the party starts.
