DIY "Tiny Dancer" Baby Shower Invitations

DIY "Tiny Dancer" Baby Shower Invitations

I have had several people ask me how I made the invitations for the "Tiny Dancer" themed baby shower I hosted a couple weeks ago so I figured I would do a picture tutorial. I had seen several DIY tutorials on cute ballerina cupcake toppers like these and these so I decided to leave off the toothpick and use them on my invitations to make them unique.

Here is what you'll need:

-Crepe Paper
-Tulle
-Scrapbook Paper
-Cardstock
-Ribbon
-Ballerina slipper stickers (mine were found at Hobby Lobby)
-And LOTS of hot glue :)

I got my envelopes first, then got Charlie to cut the grey cardstock so it would fit inside. Once that was done I made the invites in a word document and played around with them until they were slim enough to fit onto the cardstock with a nice size border. That part is up to you. :) Use some type of adhesive to stick the invite onto the cardstock (I used hot glue). Next it's on to the ballerina's.

First I cut out sweetheart top style bodices (like a heart with a flat bottom) out of my scrapbook paper, you could also do them to look more like a leotard with straps but I liked this look better:

Next I cut my crepe paper and tulle into strips. About 4 inches on the crepe paper and 3 inches on the tulle.

I don't have a picture of this step but use your fingers to bunch up the top of the crepe paper so it looks like a skirt and wrap the tulle around it so it looks like a tutu. Then hot glue the skirt to the bodice.

Last part of the ballerina's is to cut your ribbon in strips (mine were about 3-4 inches) and tie a knot. You could cut the ribbon longer and make a bow as well.

Next put a dollop of hot glue on the back on the ballerina and stick it to your invite.

Lastly, use your stickers to make little slippers peek out the bottom of the skirt to complete the look.

Here is the finished product:

One word of wisdom... because of the 3D effect on the invite, you may want to pay the extra for postage so it won't be sent through the postage machine.

Once I was finished with the invites I decided to keep making more and tie them into the party on the wreath and cupcakes. I was really excited with the finished product.

Tiny Dancer Baby Shower

I had so much fun planning and hosting this "tiny dancer" aka ballerina themed baby shower for our sweet friends Kristin and Nate. Kristin was a ballerina so we went with the ballerina or "tiny dancer" theme which meant lots of PINK, tulle and ballerinas! I thought grey would be a good accent color so it wouldn't be too much pink (if that's possible)!

Details:

Wreath: Handmade using a twig wreath from Hobby Lobby, crepe paper, pink tulle, the invite and extra cupcake toppers.

Silver "Wishes" Tree: Handmade using a few branches cut off a tree in the woods nearby and spray painted silver.  I added some embellishments mostly found in the scrapbooking isle in Hobby Lobby

Tulle Pom Poms: Handmade using this tutorial I found through Pinterest, I changed it up a little to make some different sizes though

Centerpiece: I borrowed some of my mom's pink crystal glasses and bought some flowers at a local florist.  I just cut the tops off and floated them on top of some water. I found the ballerina silhouette at Hobby Hobby and decided to stick it in the center last minute.

Cupcake Toppers: Handmade using this tutorial.  I also added the tulle on top of the crepe paper to make it look more like a tu-tu

Fabric Banner: I've seen these everywhere and decided to make one.  I bought some hem ribbon (not sure of the technical term for it but ribbon that has a fold in the middle) and bought some fabric that matched my theme.  Then I just went to town cutting fabric triangles and hot glued the fabric into the ribbon.

Ballerina slipper cookies: These were purchased from a local bakery called Pink Magnolia.  They do the best job and I believe they ship to other states as well.

Tags and Signage: I had these printed at a local print shop called Perfect Printing.  I designed them on the Mac and brought in my flash drive for them to print them.

A Black & White Christmas 2011

Every year since 2009, we have hosted a Black and White Christmas party.  Mainly because I love an excuse to dress up/decorate for a theme.

Here are some of the details from the party... sorry for the (mostly terrible) pictures.  We were running around finishing up the food and didn't have time to get really good pictures.

Pom Poms I spent forever making and couldn't find anywhere to put... so they went on the flag post outside

Details...

Chandelier: Handmade by the talented hubby using ornaments, lanterns, fishing string and metal rods

Black and White Noel letters: Purchased from Hobby Lobby

Table Runner: Puchased from Hobby Lobby

Food: All handmade by myself and Oxana (and Charlie grilled the sliders)

Black and White Christmas themed Cookies: Pink Magnolia Bakery

Photobooth: A labor of love that Charlie created.  I wish I knew how he made it happen but I'll try to explain... backdrop stand, black and white designed sheet set (with stitched torn out to make it curtain-like, an old computer set up to see the picture instantly, camera set up on a tri-pod with a remote and lots of lighting.

The party was so much fun, the photobooth was definitely the hit of the party! This could not have been done without my fabulous and talented husband, he is the best! Here are a few of those...
